Real Property Tax Sale

As required by DC statute, the Office of Tax and Revenue (OTR) holds a public auction each July to sell real property tax liens - both commercial and residential - for which property taxes were unpaid during the previous tax year. Property owners have until the date of this Tax Sale to pay their taxes in full, including penalties and interest, to prevent their property from being auctioned.

A list of all Tax Sale properties, sorted by parcel, square, suffix and lot number with the name of the owner of record and the unpaid tax amount, is advertised in local newspapers the month prior to the auction. The advertised list is also made available for download on this website.

Property owners wishing to settle their tax obligations prior to the Tax Sale should pay their outstanding tax liabilities reflected in their final bill. Anyone with questions about the status of their property should call OTR's Customer Service Center at (202) 727-4TAX (727-4829).
